Recognize Quality…….meaning!

Incident No.1:

“Hi Manne! A friend of mine bought a 7-string guitar from an artisan but after two months the neck is bent and the maker refuse to take it back. Could you help by giving him a special price on a new Manne?”

My reply: “If he had bought from me, I would have already treated him better that the other artisan by building him a proper instrument!”

Incident No.2:

A customer asked me to fix his bass as there were few problems. One of them was that the intonation was not adjusted properly.

As you see in the picture the individual saddles were arranged on a perpendicular line. Anybody that is a competent guitar or bass builder knows that saddles must be properly compensated and cannot stand in a perpendicular straight line.  The saddles should be staggered to create proper intonation. Now on this bass the problem is that the strings run thru the body and the saddles are just on the body edge. So moving them further back is not possible.

So ask myself…..who the hell is this bass builder and have they ever built one before…

Incident No.3

Speaking with a guitar builder who explained he was using a special material for building his necks, he asked me, what is the function of a trussrod…

So what do I want to underscore? That with all respect to other builders, as some of them pay taxes and follow laws and regulation and are serious about their work, unfortunately many of them just have a CNC to use for their hobby but no real knowledge or understanding of guitar building, and they cannot stand behind their product.

So it is up to customers to recognize quality…..

Quality is not just a word but is derived from true knowledge, skill, experience and reliability.
