There is a consortium created last year, that has started putting together all businesses about wood in the Italian region of Veneto, the region Manne is from. This is to shorten and optimize the wood chain from growing to harvesting, sawing, drying, stocking, marketing and delivery to the final users. This is also to highlight and promote woods cut within Veneto’s local surrounding area, woods that have specific qualities.
Meeting the consortium, I was very interested in this idea. They showed much appreciation of the figured Italian poplar tops that I cut, prepare and use for instrument tops. This is wood that is local and that I have used in a special way, taking it over the years to international exhibitions and developing so much appreciation for its beauty and for the tone qualities it imparts to stringed instruments.
So in a recent publication they talked about my instruments:
“With the institution of Veneto’s Wood consortium will be recognized officially the indissoluble link between raw material and the master artisan’s work, an expertise in balance between craftmanship, know-how and art.”
