Mariano Caldumbide

Mariano Caldumbide

Mariano passed away Monday 21 March.

Here at Manne, we usually consolidate our relation with customers.

Some of them become really good friends. Mariano was one of them.

Born in Argentina, living in Genoa and working in Milan, in 2004 he ordered from us something we had not even thought about: an 8-string built to his playing needs.

We built for him other two eight strings, refining and experimenting for tone and new techniques.

So it happened that Mariano was really involved and fascinated by the world of instrument building and our friendship grew with time.

We had very good times together as his pointed and brilliant mind was always ready for challenges without taking easy and granted references. And being so human and so “South-Americanish” his humor was like a cutting knife or paradoxically correct, describing epical stories just as Latin American writers do.

With Mariano we were always in good company, here in Schio or at the Eurobass day in Verona, and also at the Sarzana acoustic festival. I will miss him, but I think a good friendship will be never be over and will never be forgotten.

My dears,I met Mariano at Manne booth in Frankfurt. I was asking Andrea if “passed away” means that my dear Mariano is no more with us.beautiful hearted person…I stay in touch with him for 25 minutes, drinking cofee at Frankfurt Messe with my friends from Italy. After 25 minutes I felt his heart beating sooo intense and powerful with such a passion for life and music…indeed. Now I hope he is preparing to jamm up there in the sky on a stage full of lights and in front of smiling shiny faces.Very soon he will be in Heaven.I am close with my heart to his family and lover, and people who knew him.GOD,please forgive us all

  2. I met Mariano in Genoa a nice day when I was trying a guitar in a music store. He appreciated the way I played and asked if I could play some Jazz together. I accepted gladly and so we started to rehearse some standards at my place. I remember he asked if we could play “Afro blue” a lovely tune by Mongo Santamaria I wasn’t familiar with at the time. And we did. He came by several times, we played and had fun. He was into this “one man band comping” type of things he was influenced by Charlie Hunter for instance and we mesh beautifully I guess because I’m mainly a soloist kind of player. We had fun. The first time he came by he saw my old Manne Semiacustica, tried it and immediatly fell in love with it. He instantly decided to have one built under his own specifications, which essentially meant 8 strings neck. So many nice memories. I’m so sad he’s gone. I remember him very vividly. Mariano was a gentle heart, an extremely smart, intelligent and sensitive person, with a true passion for life and music. I miss him. Ciao Mariano. I remember you. stef
